Farewell Steve Jobs, a great visionary, creative genius leader that change the worlds

This morning we got a sad news, one of my admired leader in the art of technology -  a great visionary leader, brilliant and creative in his own way, inspiring many others by his contribution in changing the worlds – had passed away.

It is Steven Paul “Steve” Jobs, co-founder of Apple Corporation, that passed away on October 5, 2011, in California at age 56, he also the chief executive of Pixar Animation Studios, member of the board of directors of The Walt Disney Company. Fortune wrote that he was “considered one of Silicon Valley’s leading egomaniacs”

The company said :

We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today. Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve. His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.”

Here is some people’s comments about him :

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has stated: “Steve, thank you for being a mentor and a friend. Thanks for showing that what you build can change the world”

American director Steven Spielberg said: “Steve Jobs was the greatest inventor since Thomas Edison. He put the world at our fingertips.”

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak said: “People sometimes have goals in life. Steve Jobs exceeded every goal he set himself.”

An Indonesia IT professional BayuThea said : “Steve, thank you for all the inspirations and all the toys that also change my world”

Below my favourite quotes from Steve Jobs that inspired me :

His focus on people, the leadership style that make the difference

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma—which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown our your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary”

“All we are is our ideas, or people. That’s what keeps us going to work in the morning, to hang around these great bright people. I’ve always thought that recruiting is the heart and soul of what we do.”

“My job is not to be easy on people. My job is to make them better”

“Innovation has nothing to do with how many R&D dollars you have. When Apple came up with the Mac, IBM was spending at least 100 times more on R&D. It’s not about money. It’s about the people you have, how you’re led, and how much you get it.”

“Recruiting is hard. It’s just finding the needles in the haystack. You can’t know enough in a one-hour interview. So, in the end, it’s ultimately based on your gut. How do I feel about this person? What are they like when they’re challenged? I ask everybody that: ‘Why are you here?’ The answers themselves are not what you’re looking for. It’s the meta-data.”

“When I hire somebody really senior, competence is the ante. They have to be really smart. But the real issue for me is, Are they going to fall in love with Apple? Because if they fall in love with Apple, everything else will take care of itself. They’ll want to do what’s best for Apple, not what’s best for them, what’s best for Steve, or anybody else.”

His brilliance in innovations, he’s not capturing the customer’s needs, but creating the needs

“It’s not about pop culture, and it’s not about fooling people, and it’s not about convincing people that they want something they don’t. We figure out what we want. And I think we’re pretty good at having the right discipline to think through whether a lot of other people are going to want it, too. That’s what we get paid to do. We just want to make great products”

“It’s really hard to design products by focus groups. A lot of times, people don’t know what they want until you show it to them.”

“You can’t just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they’ll want something new.”

“We made the buttons on the screen look so good you’ll want to lick them.”

His visionary, thinks further ahead

“iPad Inspires iPhone

I actually started on the tablet first. I had this idea of being able to get rid of the keyboard, type on a multi-touch glass display. And I asked our folks, could we come up with a multi-touch display that I could rest my hands on, and actually type on. And about six months later, they called me in and showed me this prototype display. And it was amazing. This is in the early 2000s. And I gave it to one of our other, really brilliant UI [user interface] folks, and he called me back a few weeks later and he had inertial scrolling working and a few other things. I thought, My God, we could build a phone out of this. And I put the tablet project on the shelf, because the phone was more important. And we took the next several years, and did the iPhone.”

“Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.”

Steve Jobs

From your admirer, and also the user of your i-product.
