“How Far Can You Go” – Part of the work & life balance activities

As part of the work-life balance program in my department, we held another sport activity to cross the Lake Matano from Nuha village to Matano Yacht Club on Saturday, 28 April 2012, participated by 10 of our team members tried to swim across the lake. Other team used Kayak as rescue and the others stayed in the raft.

The event went well and smooth, with the huge help from FES, DSS, EHS, BECA, Matano Yacht Club and most importantly us, the ONE VALE TEAM.
The winner :
1st winner: Amelia Purba; 2nd winner: Fransisca “Dea”; 3rd winner: Wiwin Rianta
This event will be a good sport to be done annually and it will be great if we can reach other departments outside Business Support One Vale.
During this activities, we learn the important lesson: with the Motivation, Persistence and Teamwork we can do things beyond our thoughts – as from myself, I’ve never imagined I could swim this far (my record based on GPS was non-stop swimming for about 5.3 KM).

Do something for the Earth – Lake Matano Clean-Up

We have seen trash and waste everywhere and must do something about it. On April 22, we organized activities to clean up Lake Matano and its surrounding, both underwater and above water. Megawati Ihyamuis, our environmental evangelist organized the event and I also asked my team to voluntarily participate. We cleaned up the surroundings; the divers cleaned up underwater areas, mostly the areas that can’t easily reach normally without equipment. We found many trash underwater, in my perception it is getting more and more each time we do the underwater cleaning.

Hopefully our action does not stopped here, follow up by each surrounding to ensure our environment is clean and maintained well.

This activities published in several media : Ujung Pandang EkspresLuwu Raya and Palopo Pos.

This is our pictures after the cleaning session – with all the participating communities :

Guest Lecture Focuses on Change Management

Apparently, managing an ERP system (SAP) implementation project of One Vale at PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (formerly PT International Nickel Indonesia, Tbk. or PT INCO) has given me many experiences and opportunities. I can develop myself as well as share knowledge to a wide-range of people – as the project is not only about a change in the system, it also requires the change in people’s way of work.

This was the main subject I brought up last Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at my earlier university, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). As an Information Technology alumni of 1994, I was honored to share experience and insight to its STIE, IF 2008 and IF 2009 students. Entitled “Change Management in IT Investment”, I gave a guest lecture spotlighting how the change management performance functioned in the One Vale project I managed. OneVale is stated in the company website here.

All of this tough and bumpy journey has been shaping my leadership and honing my ability to face further challenge in the future.

After having the tough journey during the course of this major initiatives, there are many lessons to learn – valuable ones.
